The Mexican fire opal has always been treasured as a symbol of the deepest undying, fiery love. Gem cutters and gemstone lovers across the world have embraced the bright orange-red color and fantastic presence of Mexican fire opals.
Found mainly in Mexico, fire opals are products of ancient volcanic activity and are quite different than other opals. Contrary to opals found in parts of Australia, Mexican fire opals usually do not display the play of color that is characteristic of most opals.
Similarly to other opals, Mexican fire opals have a high water content and must be protected from sunlight and heat to prevent the gem from drying out.
